In this story Danny and his friend Ettie go to the zoo for the day. Danny brings not only his friend, but also his drawing book. As the friends explore the zoo Danny draws some of the animals he sees and makes a story in his drawing book. As the story progresses the book leaves the present world and goes into a fantasy world. It ends with a contemplation of what to do the next day.
The format of this book is wonderful. It is original in that area. The book looks like it has actual line drawings inside of it. I like how the beautiful illustrations are mixed with the drawings from Danny’s book at the end merging the two worlds. On the back end page there are two zoo tickets and the many people I have seen look at the book have all felt to see if they are actual tickets in the book. The postcards on the last page are a creative addition as well. The only area I have not touched is the story itself. I did not like the story. I think that it was forced. I wanted to like it. The book is beautifully set up, but the media outdid the story. It is a fun book to look at at the library. I would like to see this same idea, but with a strong storyline.
